More Information Regarding This Health Retreat

“I never imagined that seven days in the forest could change my life so profoundly. I have engaged in almost every diet, detox plan and exercise regime ever published with little long term success but seven days of relaxation and healthy eating has fundamentally changed my life.

The aim of the first week of the Living Consciously program is to develop the capacity for self observation. It was in recognizing that other members of the ashram had their own personal space and reasons for being in the Ashram that I became aware of my own need to create a peaceful space and consider my own identity.  Monday I investigated the meaning of physical actions. Being mindful of the most automatic actions such as breathing, walking and eating and slowing these processes down helped me to be more relaxed and feel more in control of my body and emotional state of consciousness.

Tuesday I was to experience the senses. Taking the time to observe the sights, sounds, touch, tastes and smells of the experience of working in the garden and meditating by the fire helped me awake to my surroundings and I was more clearly able to differentiate the many pleasures associated with such routine tasks. As my senses were rediscovered I became more satisfied with my own space and more comfortable in the company of others.

Wednesday was about being more aware of thoughts. Letting them come and letting them go but being aware when they are there. This day was challenging as my body was by now very relaxed from the various yoga practices and my mind had become unguarded. As I sifted through thoughts of fantasy, desires of old habits and awareness of reality I found the potential for a more balanced state of mind which has helped me manage my emotional responses to many daily situations I have previously been anxious about.

Thursday continued with the theme of awareness of emotions and the tension they may create within the physical body. I learnt that being more aware of my own emotional responses helps recognize the emotions of others and leads to better and more fulfilling relationships.

Friday’s observation task was based on the awareness of action and reaction. By responding more constructively to my own actions or the prompts of others I have become more mindful of the needs of people that surround me and also to my own needs.

Saturday is a day of listening to the body and trying to synchronize the mind. It is a hard day where the aim is to monitor the affects of various energies and their interrelationship with the mind. Physically I felt exhausted. Emotionally I was a wasteland. My attitude in general however had become far more positive and as the day went on I felt stronger and stronger.

On the last day, Sunday, after a week of living a totally different life style I felt renewed. My diet had changed, I thought more clearly, I found joy in the simplest tasks but most importantly my attitude had changed. My choices are now made more consciously and positively. Thank you. I now have the tools for a healthy and happy life.”  Chris
