Yoga & Meditation Retreat
Patanjali’s eight steps to freedom.
Yoga offers very clear and time tested means to open us to the innate wisdom of our deepest nature, and from here, through a full and heartfelt life into clear embodied action. To invite this fully embodied wisdom we will explore Patanjali’s 8 limbs model. This model points us towards an integrated yoga practice and invites inquiry into all aspects of our lives.
What we do off the mat is just as important as what we do on the mat. The 8 limbs model invites us to inquire into our relationship to the world and to others as these relationships have a profound effect on us and any work we do on the mat.
It also invites inquiry into our sense of ourselves. Any unresolved personal and emotional issues we have inherited about ourselves will be influencing our relationship to others and how we engage the process of yoga.
The first 2 of the 8 limbs provide a foundation for the rest of the work. Which is the investigation and opening of the body, the breath and feeling, and on through the various layers of mind.
The last 4 limbs are specific way we can cultivate enough internal stability to deeply explore the mind and our relationship to it. These last 4 limbs are really a blueprint for meditation.
The more areas in our lives we open to the process of yoga the more likely it is for change to take root in us. This 2 week retreat is divided into 2 weeks, we will focus on the first 4 limbs in the first week and the last four in the second week. Because of this the second week will have more meditation in it and periods of silence.
This retreat is suitable for anyone and especially those who want to explore the deeper teachings of yoga.
Retreats provide an opportunity to indulge in the full yoga experience, clarifying and deepening our understanding of yoga practice. They provide the space for us to let go of the pressures of our day to day lives. The retreats give us time to explore more subtle aspect of ourselves and gain an experiential understanding of the philosophical underpinnings that guide the practice. We run several retreats throughout the year and are generally suitable for all levels of experience. (unless otherwise stated). Each retreat has a specific focus within the context of an integrated program.
